The Annual Crochet Awards: The Flamies (FAQ)

Once again what started as a lark has taken off with leaps and bounds! The Annual Crochet Awards, meant to be some fun distractions have now, it seems become a rather “serious” affair (though never too serious with the CLF at the helm).

Q) How did the Flamies get started?

A) As with all things wacky in the CLF, on our message board, CLF Member Ellen Gormley (GoCrochet) requested an “Oscar’s ” like event for crochet. Her wish was my command. And voila we had the Annual Crochet Awards! The Ceremony takes place on Getting Loopy because CLF member, MaryBeth Temple (MBTemple) offered up her show, and voila, we have a ceremony!

Q) The Flamies? Why? What kind of name is that? And what does it have to do with crochet?

A) Look up above on the blog banner, see that flaming crochet hook? That my friends is the Flaming Crochet Hook of Justice, that became the rallying cry early on in the beginnings of the CLF emmergence. We thought Flamie was a great name for the award; that’s our story and we’re sticking to it!

Q) Do you get sponsors for the award?

A) Nope, this is sponsored by the CLF. So, we don’t make any revenue from it, and Fearless Leader (Laurie Wheeler) does all the grunt work on her own time. So, any purchasing of her patterns or the CLF Book would be very welcome. This is done out of the love of crochet, yeah, dorky isn’t it? Not really, it’s just us putting our money where our mouth is!

Q) Who does the nominating?

A) Members of the Crochet Liberation Front are invited to nominate their favorites on Ravelry.com, then we open voting to the wider crochet public. If you don’t see someone you want on our list, then by gosh join us and nominate to your heart’s content!
